I’m originally from Glasgow, currently living just outside Kirkcudbright since 2011, at my home and garden studio where I create my unique artwork.
I’m influenced by art history, anthropology and nature. My textiles are a combination of many print techniques such as digital, screen and mono print, naturally dyed and eco-printed and these original fabrics are in the mix with repurposed cloth to create upcycled unique artwear.
I’ve been using patchwork as a way to unite many different printed patterns and styles whilst repurposing fabric to create less waste since 2010. I choose simple garment shapes such as kimono-style robes, jackets and coats and wraparound skirts which are all one size and reversible.
I’ve been investigating sustainable methods of textile printing recently with Creative Scotland awards, collaboration with international printmaker and artist residencies such as Peatland Connections at Chrichton Carbon Centre. The slow process of sustainability is well worth the effort! Foraging, scouring, mordanting, seasonal work and eco-printing techniques are all time-consuming, however the final result of natural hues, shapes and designs is extremely satisfying for me as a Textile Artist looking into everything that is earth friendly.
