Pittenweem Arts Festival 2026 Open Art Call – Terms and Conditions 

1. Introduction 

Pittenweem Arts Festival invites artists based in Scotland to apply for the opportunity to be the Invited Artist for the 2026 Festival, which runs from Saturday 1 August to Saturday 8 August 2026. The selected artist will be granted an exhibition space, financial support, and promotional opportunities. By submitting an application, applicants agree to the following terms and conditions. 

2. Eligibility 

To be eligible for selection, applicants must: 

  • Have their principal place of residence and work in Scotland. 
  • Be the creator of art in any form, including but not limited to visual arts, performance arts, digital media, conceptual works, literary compositions, musical works, installations, and interactive experiences. This definition encompasses traditional, contemporary, and experimental practices. 
  • Be available to attend the entire duration of the Festival and on the day of Preview Night, i.e. Friday 31 July 2026. 

3. Application Process 

Applicants must: 

  • Complete the official application form. 
  • Submit the completed form to Pittenweem Arts Festival by 12 noon on 31 October 2025. 
  • Pay a non-refundable administrative fee of £15 to cover printing costs, ensuring high-quality images for the judging panel. The fee must be paid at the time of submission. 

4. Selection Process 

The judging panel consists of board members of Pittenweem Arts Festival and non-board member artists. They will assess submissions based on: 

  • Suitability of the work for the Festival audience and theme. 
  • Quality of the work (technical ability, concept, execution). 
  • Alignment with the curatorial vision of the Festival. 
  • Professionalism, as demonstrated in the images and content submitted in the application. 
  • The panel’s decision is final and no appeals will be considered. 

 

5. Obligations of the Invited Artist 

The selected Invited Artist must: 

  • Have their exhibition fully set up by 5pm on Friday 31 July 2026. 
  • Be present at their exhibition for the Preview Night (7.00pm – 9.30pm on Friday 31 July 2026). 
  • Attend morning and afternoon sessions daily throughout the Festival and engage with visitors at these sessions. 
  • Be available to speak to the press on Friday 31 July 2026. 
  • If selling work, agree to a 30% commission payable to Pittenweem Arts Festival. Pittenweem Arts Festival will handle all sales transactions, and the Invited Artist will receive payment by 31 August 2026. 
  • Provide a high-resolution headshot (minimum 300 dpi) within 2 weeks of request. 
  • Do all things reasonably requested by Pittenweem Arts Festival to assist in publicising the Invited Artist’s participation in the Festival. This will include the provision of high quality images of their work, participation in video interviews about their work and any such other things that may reasonably be requested. 
  • Comply with all Festival terms and conditions applicable to exhibiting artists. 
  • Ensure their venue and the accommodation provided by Pittenweem Arts Festival is left in the same condition as they found it at the conclusion of the Festival. 

6. Obligations of Pittenweem Arts Festival 

Pittenweem Arts Festival will provide: 

  • Accommodation for up to two people from Thursday 30 July – Sunday 9 August 2026. 
  • Travel expenses up to £750. 
  • An exhibition venue for the artist’s work. 
  • Support for exhibition setup and curation. 
  • Insurance coverage for the artist’s work. 
  • A gallery sitter during exhibition hours. 
  • Payment of £200 per day, including: 
    • Setup day (Friday 31 July) and attendance at Preview Night. 
    • Each day of the Festival. 
  • Marketing and promotional support, including: 
    • A feature in the Festival brochure. 
    • Festival-wide publicity of the artist’s participation. 
    • Signage and directional support for visitors. 

7. General Conditions 

  • The Invited Artist agrees to these terms in full upon selection. 
  • Pittenweem Arts Festival reserves the right to modify or cancel the Open Art Call at any time due to unforeseen circumstances. 
  • Pittenweem Arts Festival is not liable for any personal losses, damages, or expenses incurred beyond the agreed terms. 
  • By applying, artists grant permission for their submitted materials to be used for promotional purposes.
