WEATHERED - MANX BEAUTY

Weathered - Manx Beauty
A contemporary response to a vessel,
its stories and the sea.

Weathered- Manx Beauty

(Venue 33)

Weathered – Manx Beauty is a collaborative exhibition presented by the Cellardyke Trust and Pittenweem Arts Festival, bringing together artists and makers from across the East Neuk. Inspired by the Manx Beauty, a herring drifter built in Cellardyke in 1937 and once skippered by Pittenweemer Lock Horsburgh, the exhibition reflects on the boat as more than a vessel—understood instead as a carrier of memory, labour, and lived experience.

Each participating artist responds to a fragment of the boat, reinterpreting maritime heritage through contemporary practice. The result is a richly layered exhibition that celebrates local creativity while exploring the enduring connections between past and present, craft and community, and the stories shaped by life at sea.

Participating artists include: Ali Beedie, Kirsty Behrens, David Behrens, Jennifer Black (Wooltide), Julia Cowie, Keny Drew (East Neuk Glass), Wayne Galloway (Wayne Galloway Ceramics), Shelley Jupitus, Bjorn Lie, Catriona Macpherson, Ellie Meredith, David Tod, Karen Vaughan, Richard Wemyss, James Ward, and Gemma Wycherley.
