JULIA MACLAURIN

I am an abstract artist interested in the working process and the insights that this brings.  My painting/drawing emerges and I usually know what the title is.  So the title is part of the work.

This year I have been working mostly with acrylics and have been enjoying experimenting with colour.

The work I do responds to life.  It has been about earth and the human impact on the environment, ancestors and human conditioning, connection and separation and, recently, about light and spaciousness.

I like working collaboratively and realise the amazing possibilities when tapping into group energy with like minded artists.

The first of the three works I have included began with the intention, ‘The Joy of the Universe Seeing Itself’ which became the title.  This image emerged.  It is grounded, embodied and aligned to something greater.

I am committed to earth. I, increasingly, feel sad about all that is taken from her.  Images of ‘Oil Spill’ frequently appear in the work.   Often I let the work emerge and it is completed in one sitting. This did not happen in the third painting, I felt it wasn’t working. I persevered with it which led to ‘finding a balance’, the obvious title.
