HENDERSON BURSARY
SUPPORTING EMERGING ARTISTS
Are you passionate about a career in the arts? The Henderson Bursary at the Pittenweem Arts Festival offers a unique opportunity for emerging artists like you. This award is not just a prize; it’s a stepping stone to establishing your career in the arts.
Now in its 17th year, the Henderson Bursary is named in honour of David and Sheila Henderson’s long-term support. This is a practical, valuable opportunity for any emerging artist looking to make a mark.
This year we had an exciting winner!
Jennifer Alford is a ceramicist originally hailing from Ireland, but now living and working in Scotland. Her work explores surface and form, evoking the landscape through elemental glazes and instinctive mark-making.
We were delighted to introduce Jennifer to this year's Festival goers.
HENDERSON BURSARY
Jennifer grew up in Dublin and studied violin and music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and University College Dublin. Recognising the value of a strong formal background as a bedrock for improvisation, she trained in the tradition of production pottery at the Craft Council of Ireland’s prestigious Ceramics Skills and Design Course in Thomastown, Ireland.
At the potter’s wheel, she creates contemporary ceramics in porcelain and stoneware. Leveraging abstract creative processes learned through studying and performing music, Jennifer endeavours to allow for moments of chance and the unexpected to find their way into her ceramic practice.
Jennifer is also a visiting tutor at Edinburgh Ceramics workshop.
Inundated with an array of amazing entries this year we decided to award runner-up prizes to Niamh and Anna who impressed the judges with their beautiful work.
